Reasons why Sons of God need the word

Son of God needs the word just as the baby needs food for growth; sons of God  needs the word of God for spiritual growth. In the gospel of John, when Jesus met Nicodemus, He told him to be born again, John 3:3. From this we learn  that when a person accepts Christ, he is a new being who needs to be fed on the word of God, Paul says such a person is a baby who needs ‘milk’ not ‘solid food’ for spiritual growth; 1 Cor 3:1-2.

Sons of God therefore are called to win  souls, which is, to rescue God’s people from the hands of the enemy (religions of men) who had stolen them. Then  cleanse them with the  word of God, John 15:3, 17:17, Eph 5:25-26 . One does not become ‘born again’ then left without being washed or cleansed. It is the word of God that cleanses the mind of such a person. Jesus said to His disciples “you are clean because of the words I have spoken to you” John 15:3. This means that one does not become perfect by just accepting Jesus, it is just the beginning of perfectionism in Christ Gen 17:1.This is where most of the Christians tend to stop and  think they are  Christians.
Let me use an example to bring my point home, in our daily life when a woman gives birth to a child, the first thing that is done is cleaning the baby. The child is not born and immediately people start carrying him/her. The baby is first cleansed, wiped well and after that he is wrapped well in warm clothes and thereafter the mother starts the process of breast feeding.

I learn a lot when I move around looking at physical things; they make me understand more of the spiritual things. No wonder Jesus used physical examples which were happening with the Jews to pass His massages. I believe that everything that happens physically has a corresponding spiritual relevance- it doesn’t just happen. This tells me that after one has been born again, he needs time with the Lord to continue with  the process of sanctification. The bible says, the  devil came  to steal, kill and destroy, John 10:10. When something is stolen it is not kept with its original shape to avoid  it from being identified by the owner. The devil came to destroy, that is, to distort the original image created by God. Then last, to kill your upright thinking and plant in to  you corrupt ideas. You now start doing things the way the enemy  directs you to do them, eat what he tells you to eat, walk the way he wants you  to walk- he becomes your master and you, a slave. But the good news is that Jesus came to give life to that which had been stolen, destroyed and killed  and not only life but also life in abundance . He could not have come if the enemy had not stolen God’s people. He requires us to be willing to abandon the old way of living and live according to His way. Jesus said  you cannot put new wine in an old skin, Matt 9:17. He was passing the  massage that the teachings of world could not be incorporated with the teachings of Christ. The church should not mix  the doctrine of Christ with the world doctrines- the teaching that is taught in the church should be totally different from the teachings the world gives.
Christ in His statement meant that when one is converted, he is to be introduced to the Word so that the knowledge of the word may cleanse the mind that had been corrupt by the enemy. He said you cannot mix the two, if you mix them the result will be worse than it was in the beginning. The former knowledge has to be cleared first by the word of God. You don’t bring rules of the church thinking they will change the person , Paul says a believer is transformed by renewal of his mind. I have seen in  many churches, after one has been converted he is given such rules as : you should not do this or that , dress this way, avoid walking with this kind of people, you should not put on this type of dress, don’t plait your hair and so many other rules. All these do not change the person. The only thing that changes the person is having the knowledge of God’s word. Paul reminded the believers to be transformed by renewing their mind Romans 12:2. He knew how to solve the problem once and for all. Paul  goes on to say, after you have been born again you are to be transformed by renewal of the mind.Be you transformed!. Be you metamorphosed!, transfigured!; appear as new a person!, and with new habits!, as God has given you a new form of worship, so that you serve in the newness of the spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. The word implies a radical, thorough, and universal change, both outward and inward. How are you to be transformed? By  renewing  your mind, let the inward change produce the outward. Where the spirit, the temper, and disposition of the mind, Ephesians 4:23, are not renewed, an outward change is of but little worth, and it is of short standing. As I had quoted earlier in the statement Jesus gave to the disciples “you cannot put new wine into old skin or put a new patch of cloth to an old piece of cloth” this will worsen the other matt 9:17. Jesus is using a life example to pass the information on the need to clean the old and not to mix the new teachings with the old teachings of the Pharisees. When you are to service the car, you do not service the engine with the old oil, you will have to buy new oil, remove the old one for your car to be well serviced.
Today the church is suffering because of this, after winning souls she does not teach them the true Word of God. She mixes these people without training them, and this has made her suffer a lot. Just like the military recruits and trains its soldiers before being deployed for a combat,the same way the church has to train the new converts before they are send out to shine, Matt 28:20. Paul says in His epistle to Corinthians the old leaven is to be purged out, 1 Corinthians 5:7. That is, you are bound by your Christian profession to be unleavened, or to be pure. Your very profession implies this, and you ought, therefore, to remove all impurity, and to become holy. Let there be no impurity, and no mixture inconsistent with the holiness which the gospel teaches and requires. The apostle here does not refer merely to the case of the incestuous person, but he takes occasion to exhort them to put away all sin. Not only to remove this occasion of offense, but also to remove all impurity, that they might become entirely  holy. The doctrine is that Christians are by their profession holy; therefore they ought to give all diligence to remove everything that is impure. These impurities are removed by reading the word of God which is water that cleanses, Eph 5:26. Without which she will continue to suffer all the things we see today happening and this is the trick of Satan to discourage many believers from seeking God. The church is now suffering with immorality, theft in the church, witch craft, homosexuality, drunkenness, corruption among the believers, idolatry, adultery, marriage breakdown, bitterness, gossip, materialism, tribalism, dishonesty, even corrupt pastors have been attracted to come and make money in the church and many other evils. Paul calls these the works of flesh in his letters to Galatians church, Gal 5:19-21. Paul says these things are not even to be mentioned among believers. He says all who practice these things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
It is  high-time  the church  understood this so that we can practice it in our churches, then we will attract many people to Christ. The church is not a hiding place where every evil kind of a person is to be found. It is a place that should reflect the holiness of God and this can be reflected in the lives of the sheep. She is called to be the light of the world, Matt 5:14. All these things are happening because the foundation of  believers was not well established on the word which is the rock, 1Cor 3:11 . It is not just winning  souls; we are to make these souls shine for Christ. By making them shine, they will make the name of God be glorified, 1 peter 2:9 as a chosen nation of God. It is the right time the church as a fellowship to realize her identity and her role in the society. I will discuss this when it comes to our identity in the Lord.
In summary the believers are rescued from the hands of Satan to shine as light to those still in the ‘world’ so that they can attract them to God. This will happen only if they accept after their call to surrender their mind to Christ for renewal. It is the work of God to cleanse but it is our responsibility to read and listen to the word of God. When you want to be a believer who will see the kingdom of heaven dip yourself in the word; read the bible and not only that, allow the bible to  ‘read’ you too. By doing this your mind will be ready for restoration and when it is ready God will restore you with His mind, the-mind that is holy which does not conform the standards  world.
